Kimbercote - Energy Conference
Working with Kimbercote Farm, a retreat and centre for social and environmental justice, Make Hay provided marketing support for a series of five workshops and a two day Sustainable Energy Conference at Kimbercote Farm.
With limited financial resources, we focused on PR efforts, taking advantage of word of mouth opportunities in the “environmental” community, and designed a bright visual graphic to use on all promotional materials.
We didn’t totally ignore traditional methods which included print ads and posters. Additionally we issued media invites and releases about the conference, wrote an article on Sustainable Energy for a regional magazine, and maximized the internet by posting to web site calendars at portal sites and local events sites, sending e-flyers to our email lists of individuals and organizations and pdf posters to several, such as a health foods store. This approach produced excellent local and regional media coverage, successful attendance and a government sponsor satisfied with the “good press.”
Conference materials reinforced the brand identity and included an interactive CD with bibliography of clickable web resources.
Symphony in the Barn
A small symphonic production of The Magic Flute in a dairy barn in Grey County, Symphony in the Barn became a national story through the successful handling of local, regional and national media. The small town event was promoted using media and public relations almost exclusively — the advertising budget was almost non-existent. In its first real year of production, the summer arts festival received media attention from Harrowsmith television, CTV, Maclean's, The Globe & Mail, The Toronto Star and many other regional and local media. This exposure helped to build a media profile and attract a major sponsor for its second year of production
Sex, Lies & Other Fictions - an evening of poetry performance in support of adult literacy
Using our skills in event management, Make Hay organized an evening of poetry performance in support of adult literacy. We developed the concept and promotional strategy, including production of press releases, poster design and media relations. We also coordinated with the performers and the Adult Literacy organization, negotiated the venue, sound system and music, food and drink refreshments. Additionally, Make Hay organized fundraising activities and ice-breaking entertainments to take place throughout the evening, providing an interactive event.
