The day designated for Elf Olympics was bright and sunny. The elves, decked out in their athletic clothing were warming up with some stretches and sprints. Amber, Percy, Roly and Erno had organized all the elves into squads, representing the different "countries" competing. There really weren't that many elves, so most of them were participating in all of the events. There were sled races, a sort of variation on the 2-person bobsled; some cross-country skiing; footraces; pole vaulting (North Pole vaulting); and snowball throwing.

In a nearby snow-covered field behind the Reindeer Barn, Rudolph had gathered all of the reindeer for their contests, including races and head-butting. The foot races were proving to be very challenging because Santa's magic reindeer lift off the ground and fly, once they reach a certain ground speed.

In another contest, Blitzen and Comet were head butting - a variation on wrestling. But at one point, their large racks were tangled together and Mrs. Claus needed to be called upon to untangle them. At first, it looked like she would need to use the small hacksaw she had brought with her, until a little extra Blitzen effort unlocked the points.

Across the field, Rudolph heard Amber. "Listen to this," she cried. "Two, Four, Six, Eight, who do we eliminate? All the rest! We're the best! Yea elves!" At that, Amber leapt in the air shaking her pom-poms. "It's my Christmas Cheer," Amber said smiling broadly. Rudolph stormed across the field to the elf Olympic site.

"That's absurd," said Rudolph. "And besides, you couldn't eliminate us reindeer," he said icily.

"Wanna bet?" Percy put in.

"Okay, how about a race?" Rudolph replied.

"You're on!" Percy declared. "And the winner is the fastest, the fastest at the north pole!"

The elves and reindeer lined up across the starting line. Mrs. Claus held up the starter's pistol. "Take your marks, get set, GO!" At that, the elves tiny legs windmilled along, Percy was in the lead, among the elves, but it was obvious that the reindeer, with four legged speed could take them, but as Percy started to gain on Donder, by far the slowest of the reindeer, the other reindeer panicked. Turning to see Percy puffing up fast on them, Rudolph and the others made the fatal mistake of turning on their speed, and as soon as they did, they lifted off into the air. Percy crossed the finish line first - on foot.

"Elf wins, elf wins!" Percy cried.

Erno had cheered along with the other elves, but seeing the sadness on the faces of the reindeer, he wondered about how much "fun" the Olympics were really turning out to be. "This whole competition thing is getting a little bit carried away," he thought to himself. "And, what will Santa think when he returns?"
